The Race is on for the
Formula Woman Final at Snetterton |
||
Although disappointed with her driving this weekend, finishing 7th and 6th Vicky felt she did not really get to grips with the circuit until the second race and did not capitalise on using the slipstream as well as other drivers. Race 1 Vicky drove a consistent race, making up 2 places to finish 7th. Vicky stated "I am not happy with the way I drove, I have just not felt on the limit this weekend". Vicky is usually a demon starter, coming from 6th on the grid to lead into the first corner at Mallory Park just a week ago but admitted she got the worst start she has ever had in race 1 this weekend. Although gaining on the lead pack by the end of the race, it was too late after the poor start as she had lost too much time overtaking slower cars. Race 2 Starting from 9th on the grid, Vicky made up a few places at the start of the race. It was always going to be a fight and Vicky attacked from the start. Moving quickly into 7th position Vicky lost 2 places carrying out a daring move on 6th place driver Suzanne Dignan, which should make good viewing for her onboard camera. Vicky soon regained her 7th place and was poised to make a move on both Suzanne Dignan and Michelle Nixon as she was lapping almost half a second quicker than the rest of the lead pack. Unfortunately Michelle Nixon tangled with a back marker leading to a red flag and the race being cut short. Vicky was very disappointed with 6th place as her speed warranted a podium finish, recording the fastest time of the entire weekend in the race. "I am just cross that I found my speed so late in the weekend, everyone was surprised but I am pleased that my true speed was shown in the end". Although many other drivers would be very happy with these finishing positions, Vicky is a perfectionist and has been used to finishing consistently on the podium. Vicky is now focussing on the final, a double points round at Snetterton in September, where she feels confident that she can still win the Championship. "The Championship is not out of reach and I cannot wait to get to Snetterton; a circuit I enjoy and feel confident driving". Vicky has proved she is a very accomplished young driver who has high hopes for the future. Vicky and team-mate, Kirsty Jeffrey still lead the team Championship comfortably. Vicky quotes; " I am also hoping to have an exciting new sponsor on board, who wants to back a winning driver into the Nations Cup later this year". << back to news |
