Exciting duels at Mallory Park

Race One: 14 Championship contenders lined up for Round 3 of the Formula Woman Championship at Mallory park on Sunday with Michelle Nixon on Pole and Championship leader Lucy Redidng beside her on the front row.

Lloyd made a flying start leading Nixon and Redding into Gerrard’s, but it wasn’t long before Redding took the lead. Nixon soon managed to regain her position on lap 2 and held it for three more laps before the race was red flagged due to Vicky Lloyd’s car coming to an unexpected stop on the exit to Gerrard’s as she lost power and an incident leaving Jackie Skelton's car in a barrier.

On the restart Vicky Lloyd was forced to start form the pit lane puting her back into 13th place. It was a much better restart for Helen Ray though, who made superb progress to take the lead – very impressive as she started the race in 9th position!

Ray continued to hold her lead to the chequered flag – minus her nose cone which she lost earlier (much to Skelton’s dismay as she collected the stray nose causing her the loss of her steering, and her ending up in the tyres sustaining a sprained wrist in the process).Lloyd recovered well from her mechanical failure and fought her way back up to 10th position, although this was Lloyd's worst finish yet she agreed she was lucky to have finished at all.

Race Two: With Jackie Skelton out on round 3, only 13 cars started the second race of the day which found Suzanne Dignan on pole with Lucy Redding along side her.

This time it was Nikki Welsby who made the best start, catapulting her car into the lead in lap one, with Redding and Ray hot on her heels.

After a few changes in position, Dignan made a move on Ray on lap 2, in an attempt to snatch 3rd position but managed to tangle with Ray resulting another race stoppage.

The restart saw Vicky Lloyd make a fabulous start from third on the grid leading Welsby, Bremner, Redding, Jeffrey and Nixon.

The lead changed several times with an extremely tight pack of girls, showing some breathtaking manoeuvres.

Mallory Park spectators were treated to some of the most exciting racing of the day especially the final side-by-side race for the line - the eventual winner being Kirsty Jeffrey who was literally a nose cone ahead of Lucy Redding with Vicky Lloyd clinching third.

The Championship remains wide open with four different winners in four rounds
