Lloyd and Glew prove they are the pair to beat

Following the success of the Novice Championship, Formula Woman partnered up with Hyperion Motorsport at Brands Hatch on the 4th November to run a 40 minute endurance race – with five Formula Woman drivers and their partners, on the grid alongside 18 male-driven Caterhams for the Hyperion challenge!

The race was a real test of stamina and ability for the Formula Woman drivers as they pitted their skills against a predominantly male grid! They should all be proud that they certainly did not disappoint and again showed that women really can drive!

Championship runner-up Vicky Lloyd with partner Philip Glew were absolutely delighted to win overall, and to cap their win they also took fastest lap of the race! Qualifying too was a great triumph for Lloyd who posted an outstanding lap time only to be bettered by partner Glew, resulting in the pair claiming pole position.

Their win was by no means an easy task with such an accomplished and varied grid. After a poor start Lloyd dropped to 10th position and subsequently ended up in the gravel at druids while trying to make up places.

Following an incident at Paddock involving Champiponship latecomer Lucy Clements, the race was red flagged thus allowing Lloyd to re-start at the back of the grid. Clements was extremely unfortunate in the incident, which resulted in a broken arm and a trip to hospital.

Having learned her lesson from the first start, Lloyd quickly took four cars from the line and managed to make up 14 places in just five laps. Following the mandatory two minute pit stop, Lloyd’s partner Glew took the wheel and after a mere 3 laps and some superlative driving found himself leading the pack - a position he held to the flag.

Nations Cup and Silverstone Challenge winner Natlaie Butler was again on the Formula Woman grid and along with partner Neil Fletcher put in some solid driving to achieve an overall 5th position and 2nd in class. Another familiar face on the Formula Woman grid, Emma Eede partnered Lee Edwards and took an overall 7th place and 3rd in class.

Newcomer to the race grid, Veronique Pereira partnered David Brown to a very respectable 10th overall place - an excellent result considering it was Veronique’s first race.

Once again the Formula Woman drivers have proven that they certainly have the speed and the ability to race alongside experienced male drivers and in some cases show them how it’s done!

Vicky commented "I had a great time sharing the car with Philip and winning the race was brilliant as we both worked really hard to make up for my bad start. I would love to do it all over again and I thoroughly enjoyed racing against the guys, although I am not sure they were too happy when I beat them!"
